TIP OF THE WEEK: Sweet apps from the *IRE conference*.

Don’t forget what an incredible news gathering tool you carry in your pocket!!!!

Sorry that I am doing this again this week. My “tip person” had to cancel. So to make up for I’ll give you a candy jar of great news apps to try out on your iPhone or Android. Everyone at IRE received these so I can’t imagine passing a couple of them along is a bad idea… at least I’m not giving you them all!

1. BANJO — Track social media chatter around breaking news locations near you or far away (android | iPhone)

2. DRAGON DICTATION — Dictate your notes with voice and it transcribes it for you (iPhone)

3. FLIGHT TRACKER — Tracks airplanes in the sky live through the camera lens. W/# of passengers make of airplane, origin and destination. (android | iPhone)

4. PF AIR — Tracks airplanes in the sky live through the camera lens. W/# of passengers make of airplane, origin and destination. (iPhone)

5. iENG — Multi-media platform where you can record video or still pictures then send them into the newsroom seamlessly (iPhone)

6. LiveATC — Listen to air traffic controllers anywhere in the world (iPhone)

7. ROAD NINJA — Terrific app to show food, lodging, & gas stations at exits while on the road. (android | iPhone)

8. SCANNER RADIO — Listen to police scanners near and far. (android | iPhone)

Enjoy! This might be top secret stuff so hopefully I don’t get myself in trouble giving them out!…haha.
